News Update From the Home of Peace Children’s Home! 25th July 2025

We’re thrilled to bring you another update from the Home of Peace Children’s Home in Kenya! Thanks to your generosity, the children are thriving, growing, and learning so much every single day.

It warms our hearts to share the joy and progress we see here. The sounds of laughter echo through the home, and the children’s bright smiles are a testament to the safe, loving, and nurturing environment you help create. They’re excelling in their studies, discovering new talents, and building strong friendships, all because of your unwavering support.

Your contributions directly impact every aspect of their lives. From providing nutritious meals and comfortable beds to ensuring they receive a quality education and essential medical care, you are truly making a profound difference. You are giving these children not just a home, but a future filled with hope and opportunity.

Daniel’s Journey: A Brightening Horizon
We have an important update on Daniel, the brave young boy receiving cancer treatment. He is still in the hospital, diligently completing a course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. This intensive treatment program lasts 35 days, and we are hopeful that he will be able to return to Home of Peace in about 10 days’ time! The hospital is about 120 miles away from Home of Peace.

Mbanda, our dedicated assistant social worker, continues to stay in a hotel near the hospital, ensuring Daniel has constant care and companionship during this challenging period. We are receiving positive reports from the hospital: Daniel is responding well to the treatment! After he is discharged, he will need to return for at least two more follow-up appointments at three-week intervals, before a further five-day course of chemotherapy. After that, the medical team will have a clearer picture of his long-term situation.

Please join us in praying for Daniel’s continued healing and strength.

Your prayers are truly a comfort to him and to us.

We also ask for your prayers that God will provide all the necessary funds for his treatment and for Mbanda’s extended stay.

Praise God Mbanda is staying in a very nice hotel (in the UK this would probably be a 4 star rated hotel) as when Erick Owino, our Purchasing Officer, made the booking he explained to the hotel manager what we are doing and why we needed the accommodation for Mbanda, the manager was very impressed and kindly reduced their normal charges. It is therefore costing just £15 per day including his meals in an upgraded room.

Previously when BenClinton stayed with Daniel on his first admission we could simply not afford a hotel room so he rented a small room near the hospital and had his meals (which we paid for) at the hospital. This did not give him any real relaxing time in the evenings, and the room was very basic we had to buy a mattress, blanket, sheet and other essentials for him. We appreciate BenClinton’ s willingness to do this to support Daniel.

Life at Home of Peace continues to flourish, thanks to your support! Our children and students are thriving, carefully monitored and cared for by their House Mothers and Night House Fathers.

To avoid confusion
NOTE: Children means not yet at secondary school
Students means at Secondary School

We are very aware of some upcoming needs for repairs in the dormitories. The children and students need new mattresses, and the wardrobes they use to store their personal items have reached the end of their usable life and need to be replaced as soon as possible.

Bernice, our Health Department Manager, who is a qualified and experienced staff nurse and community nurse, continues to do an outstanding job overseeing the health of all our children, students, staff and staff children.

She and her team run 2 drop-in clinics every day. Located in a malaria-endemic zone, Home of Peace benefits from Bernice’s proactive measures, which include providing new mosquito nets and diligently destroying mosquito breeding sites.

She has also successfully initiated programs to manage and control Tinea Capitis (ringworm) and Tinea Corporis (a fungal skin infection), ensuring our children stay healthy.

Erick is our Pastor and Purchasing Officer.

He works for Home of Peace 2 days a week and for his church the rest of the week, and is available as a pastor for Home of Peace whenever needed. Erick has been with Home of Peace since we took over 15 years ago.
He is totally dedicated and committed to the children and students and is a great blessing.

There’s also some maintenance work required for doors and a couple of beds. Please join us in praying that God will provide the funding so these essential improvements can be made swiftly.

The Kitchen / catering department

Under the leadership of Evans,  does an amazing job providing over 6,000 nutritious, tasty and freshly prepared meals for our children, students and staff

The other departments at Home of Peace are also running smoothly.

This includes our day-care department for our youngest children under the age of 8 years. They attend Peace Academy in the morning for their Early Childhood Development classes  and after school and during school holidays Hellen (Erick’s wife) runs our Day-care facility at Home of Peace.

The dedicated laundry team keep everything fresh and clean, our talented seamstress who ensures all clothing and linens are in good repair.

And our vital ground staff who maintain our beautiful grounds and provide security. Samuel our driver works on the ground team when he is not driving our van.

On Saturday Mornings

We employ Henry, the Headmaster of Peace Academy to work with any of our children who are struggling with school work.

Since this started, they are doing so much better at school.

Education is so very important for the future lives of these children and students

We are delighted to report that since our last newsletter, we’ve had no major discipline problems with children, students, or staff – a true blessing!

For your prayers

Please join us in praying that God will provide for all of the needs at Home of Peace. To be honest, we do not enjoy asking for money from our supporters, but the needs are real.

Please pray that God will touch hearts and that people will feel moved to support financially as they are able.

We remember with immense gratitude a time many years ago when a local church heard about our need for mattresses. They organized a fundraiser and provided all the money needed. It was an incredible blessing that we will never forget!

Could this be something your church might be interested in doing?

Do you belong to any group or organization that might be interested in taking on a project to raise funds for these specific needs?

If so, please do let us know, and I would be very happy to provide all the necessary details.

Thank you again for being such an integral part of the Home of Peace family. Your prayers and support truly transform lives!

Love in Jesus
