Good News 6th Feb 2025

God is good.

We thank God that we have never lost a child due to accident or illness. We place a high priority on our Home of Peace Health Department and were sad when, due to personal circumstances, our Health Dept Manager had to resign at the end of December.

We still have 3 members of staff who, in addition to their normal duties, have been trained and serve as nurse aides who look after the medical needs, and we are in the process of interviewing qualified staff to replace him. We hope to have a new Health Dept Manager in place within a couple of weeks. Prayer appreciated.

Home of Peace is located in an area of extreme need and depravation. See the report below produced by the UNM  School of Medicine (located in the USA)

Today we received the official certificate of Registration from the Kenya Government Ministry of Labour and Protection. As we mentioned last October the Kenyan Government has very strict rules about Children’s Homes and as such we have to re-apply every 3 years. This is a long, complex and expensive process involving multiple inspections of Home of Peace, reports from the local Children’s Services, the Dept of Health, the Police. A detailed examination of all our records and audited accounts, etc.

It takes close to a year from the start of the process until we are informed of the results.

We were informed, off the record, that Home of Peace was the only certificate approved in Siaya county by the head office, they are still not passing other homes. Hopefully the other Children’s Homes will be able to make the required changes and improvements in order to have their registration renewed.

To grasp something of the magnitude of the problem please take a moment to read the extract below from the report I mentioned above. To read the full report click here

About Siaya County
Siaya county (2,496.1 km2, 963.7 sq mi) is located on the border of Lake Victoria and is one of the poorest counties in Kenya, with most households incomes below the poverty line.

Siaya has the highest rates of morbidity and mortality in the country due to infectious diseases, including high infant mortality rates.

Diseases in Siaya
The most common diseases in Siaya district are HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, skin diseases, diarrheal disease, severe malnutrition and malaria.

This equatorial community of East Africa has one of the highest rates of malaria in the world, resulting in substantial morbidity and mortality in children.

The Siaya community has also been dramatically affected by HIV/AIDS. The high rate of HIV, despite implementation of ARVs, creates substantial challenges for the healthcare system, including exacerbation of malarial anemia in the pediatric population.

Without your support we could not keep Home of Peace running and continue saving and transforming lives. THANK YOU!

God bless you
